Mission Statement

I’m creating this website to display my work that I have done over this semester. The purpose for this website is to help me develop skills that will assist me when moving towards my career. By using my writing to establish a personal brand identity, I can prepare myself for when I continue to develop my recognition. A good quality personal website should consist of many factors to make it effective. This will include the content that is being presented. Having accurate content with well-communicated factors will allow you to establish creditability and allow the viewers to believe that there is knowledge about the topic. Another good example of an effective personal website is including a tone for the website. When trying to express your main idea, choosing a tone will help viewers understand what the website is trying to exhibit whether if it’s fun or serious. The purpose of my website is to showcase my essays that I have constructed since being in a first-year composition class and how I made connections between each essay. Because I wanted to demonstrate how to only pull out the important components of a piece of writing, I have included a summary of an article written by John Pekins called “A Community College Professor Reflects on First Years Composition”. The summary highlights the main idea of his article and the problems that are associated with it. I also included two different types of rhetorical essays, one was about John Perkins article and the other was about the relationship of two discourse communities. When writing these two essays, I had to use many different rhetorical strategies when trying to support my thesis. The discourse community analysis was difficult to connect two completely different communities and I wanted to show how I overcame that obstacle of difficulty. My overall theme for my website is organization. While reading over my essays, I realized that I had a specific structure and organization for each essay. This connected my essays together and showed an appropriate strategy when writing in first-year composition. Organization is an important factor to the writing process because it aids the flow of an essay and gives reader an outline to follow for their understanding of the main idea. It gives a writer a specific structure so that their argument can be more effective and focus throughout their whole writing. I believe that my writing that I have developed shows a great example of a productive and beneficial organization.
